Another Newfoundland Cover 1942 #152 & #229

Hope sharing of this cover is not too much "show and tell"--interesting to me but probably boring to many of you.

The front has a TPO cancel and the back has a St Johns NB cancel. Also--some previous owner wrote in pencil something about "CCSG E2 Scarce"...I don't really know the specifics but this relates to the censor label. anyone ?

Also--the back is pretty captivating to me -- lots going on and a half cancel that I am dying to uncover...

I can give you a general description of the journey. Quite an interesting WW2 cover.

The letter was mailed at Port Au Basque, Newfoundland. Starts with the Port Au Basque and North Sydney TPO on the stamps APR 28. The letter went to St John, New Brunswick (APR 30). From there, it went on a Railway, the SYDNEY & TRURO RPO postmark (AP 30) is struck three times on the back. The letter reached Boston on May 1, assume by train.

Since the SAINT JOHN postmarks are on top of the censorship labels, I assume the letter was opened some time between Port Au Basque and St John.

Not sure what happened after this because that Lexington postmark is on May 11.

thanks, yes ...here is what I have for the journey:

April 28 front cancel: on a Newfoundland train : "Port Au Basques & N. Sydney T.P.O, NF." (this is Ludlow N80, with a rarity factor of 300)

April 28 or 29th back cancel hidden by censor label: a Maritime cancel per Ludlow : "Halifax & Camp / R.P.O" , Ludlow MA-81 / RF of 130 (the cancel type is the tell, it is type 17 not 17H). Maritimes are exclusively Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, not Newfoundland.

April 29 back cancel with another Maritime cancel: "Sydney & Truro / R.P.O", this is Ludlow MA-241,RF of only 50. This could be April 30 but under the magnifying glass it appears to be 29....trivial eitherway

April 30 back cancel at Saint John NB

May 1 back cancel at Boston

May 11 back cancel at Lexington

The only remaining mystery is what it the "CCSG E2" in pencil. My hypothesis is that this is currency control label--not a war censor; too early for war censor and the typing indicates otherwise. I believe authorities would check envelopes for cash being sent. Does anyone know or have anything on this?
