D972 NFLD Airmail Stamp

Hi guys...I know someone posted his stamp a while ago, but as a flyspecker (yikes) I noticed the bottom "Newfoundland" words are spelled different..They spell "New Foundland"" separate..Mistake or designer allowed to design it the way he/she felt..??

I'd chalk it up to artistic license, especially since there is historical reference to the location once being known as "New Foundland" (two words) and later unified into one word as "Newfoundland".

These are considered "cinderellas" and there is another post on them. Here are the basics, per NSSC and Walsh (2014 Edition). But note that AAMC (6th edition) and NSSC Walsh & Butt (7th edition) listed them as legit and as a FFC.

There was a 1930 Sydney to St. Pierre to St John's to Sydney flight but was flown from Canada not Newfoundland (maybe this explains the error!). It was not supported by the government and no mail was carried. There are envelopes with the label, made by a private company. The flight was on Dec 15, 1931 and the envelopes were delivered after seizure and return but in 1934!. There are 4 different varieties (red on yellow; red on striped yellow; black on shaded yellow; grey on green). I'd keep it and its nice with the margin edging.

Although this has nothing to do with the initial post, here's an excerpt from a BNA Topics magazine showing a slogan cancel (circa 1927) that was changed from "NEW FOUNDLAND" (two words) to "NEWFOUNDLAND" (one word) so it seems as though this was within the period when both names were used interchangably:

Nice info wt1...i dint remember seeing any other stamps (NFLD) with separate words..Unless Tommy has any ideas..
