inherited a bunch of old stamp albums from my dad. I don't even know where to start, I collect coins only. Suggestions please....The albums are not 100% full but seem to be in nice shape and many slots are filled. There are both foreign and US stamps. Thanks.

Kakaratt77, welcome to the forum. Yours is a familiar question and has been answered lots of times here!
You have several options. One is to post pictures ( scans ) of some of the more representative pages.
Another one, and one I strongly recommend is to look for a local stamp club or maybe a local collector who can physically look at your albums. The way to find local collectors or clubs is to contact the American Philatelic Society. Their website is www.stamps.org and good luck!

Peter

Hi,
Welcome to the forum!

Lots of good advice so far, not much I could add - except - you might want to consider taking up the hobby. You will never regret it!

If you're just interested in identifying what you have and to get a ballpark idea of value, most larger libraries will have copies of The Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, commonly known as the Scott Catalog or simply "Scott". In 6 volumes, they list and value every valid postage stamp ever issued by central governments of the world (some localities have issued stamps, but Scott doesn't list all of those). Just take the prices you see listed there with a large grain of salt. Most stamps with a stated value of around $5-$10 or less are, in fact, worth pennies in the real world, and sometimes literally nothing at all. Stamps valued at higher than that sell for around 10-50% of the values you'll see in the catalog. Catalog values aren't totally useless - if you see one valued at $100 you can bet the "real" value is a lot more than one valued at 50 cents. But in most cases it won't actually be worth $100, unless it's a really outstanding specimen.
