Rafa, thanks for posting these essay. East and West Germany showed strong similarities in design of their stamps over the years. Compare the last stamp on the second row with the last stamp on the second row of this Berlin cinderella heet.

These are not true essays officially proposed for a design. They were privately printed for the German Stamp Exhibition, DEBRIA (DEutsche BRIefmarken Austellung) in 1950.
I would classify them as Cinderellas.

Here's more information on them (In German)

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

It was a proposal of the German Philatelic Federation for making postage stamps, but they were not official, it was officially considered by collectors as essay, (so it describes the auction house). Some colors are issued in very few sets, for example blue is known that there are about 30 sets ......

Rafa,

Those are nice sets and have historical value. In my opinion they are very collectable but because they aren't official, they don't count as essays.
I collect DDR and all the collectors I know echo the sentiments of those on the website I linked; they aren't considered essays.
I also checked with a collector-friend who specializes in DDR and has on occasion contributed to Michel on DDR stamps. His opinion was less charitable than mine. He throws them away.
A number of those issues have faked expertization marks and are sold to collectors outside of Germany.
If you could obtain a current BPP certification for those issues as essays, I would gladly retract my comments.
