I haven't but I did contact the seller and asked him about the cert discrepancy. He promptly replied with,
"Not at all my ads conform find out correctly"
I normally do not post email content that is sent to me but in this case I really do not understand what it means.
I guess I could have shrugged this off with the ol 'buyer beware' perspective and not contacted him; but after thinking on it I thought it worth the effort to see if the listing could be improved and hard feelings over a bad transaction avoided. It doesn't appear that the effort will affect change in this case. Don

Wow all of these rare U.S. stamps for sale and it hasn't been mentioned in the philatelic press. Usually, the philatelic press announces when such rarities come up for sale. ebay should be told about these classic philatelic sales on its website along with Linn's stamp news about it. How it is possible that this dealer has all of these rare stamps and no one knew about it before now? There are several replicas of rare stamps being sold on ebay these days. |

Hey, the bidding has dropped back from $510 in the original post to $130. Now is the time to leap in and enter a capturing bid for these gems. w**r and i**o are the only 2 bidders in this auction. |

When fraud is suspected, contacting the seller may not be a good idea. Since ebay does not seem to be responding promptly to fraud reports, try contacting the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspxI suspect that ebay would take some sort of action if the IC3 can be persuaded to contact them. John, I am missing something here. It is the same certificate, so it must be the same stamp. But why would anyone sell this thing on E-Bay? |

This is the philatelic equivalent of those emails from Nigerian aristocrats asking you to help park their millions in inheritance money if you would just provide your bank details. The more outrageous the promises, the better for them, because what they want is to scam the most gullible person possible. In fact a leading economist has contended that the more outlandish these offers are, the more they succeed because the outrageous claims rapidly weed out all but genuine "marks." The questions and responses don't matter and that's why the replies are gibberish. Someone will pay, get nothing, the buyer will complain to ebay, be refunded, then the scammer will close the account and move to a new IP. The seller wins, any innocent buyer is made whole, and ebay has a small loss. There's nothing for us to do but sit back and watch as eBays fees inch upward to cover such loss over time. |

The 'seller' also lists 10 days as the length of time it takes him to mail the item to you. Nice cushion so he can disappear with whatever money he scammed. |

I was assuming the replies are gibberish for the same reason the ebay descriptions are gibberish -- non-native English speaker, perhaps using Google translate. But you may be right, they may be deliberate gibberish from someone who could write decent English but the gibberish is part of the scam. "At this point, what difference does it make" and "who am I to judge?" to coin a phrase or two. |

How many people who are not serious collectors would stop to think that if someone was selling a real Inverted Jenny they would be doing it through an auction house and it would be the star of a big glossy catalog and most likely wind up on the cover and not suddenly pop up on ebay in some 'old' collection someone is trying to unload? Hopefully someone does not bid on this and wind up with a really expensive lesson and a serious headache trying to get their money back from ebay! |
