Have you checked E-Bay? That would give you some idea of what is going on!

I picked one up last year for $50 in a 3" binder - slightly used but in rather good condition. There were a few stamps scattered through the pages. I decided to expand by Scott International's through 1965 - everything after that is on "Steiner" pages. Subway stamp has great deals on dust cases to match the binders.

Be very, very careful when buying or bidding on any Internationals on ebay. Do not just assume that when a seller says they are selling a 'volume 5' that it is indeed that, and not a volume with the number five on it but with other pages. I have seen a lot of sellers do this stuff- lazy sellers apparently. Also do not bid on any used album with a listing not showing what the pages look like. I have seen listings with six or more scans of the binder from all angles and the title page but nothing of the pages- you cannot tell if they are written all over, plastered with black mounts or what.

Very good advice here from PK and 1962. I am sure many used albums sold on auction sites could be a mess. However, I recently won bid on ebay for nearly new condition 3-volume used set of Scott Platinum US hingeless albums. The 3 albums covering 1935 to 1982 are copyrighted 1989, but are like new and of very good quality. At $300 I felt they provide decent value for (3) 13-ring hingeless albums with my preferred top-loading mounts and Scott numbers. But when they arrived I found the volumes which are in terrific clean condition were missing pages for a dozen years! It took two months to get the missing pages, but to his credit, the dealer Henry Gitner, found them and shipped them at no added cost. Be sure to ask for scans of typical pages before buying.
