I guess US replicas are part of the worldwide category, I hope... This is a very recent purchase, a TASCO T6 folder of replicas of the Confederate postage stamps. There are occasional fakes of these vintage folders, which are copyright 1941, but the vintage ones incorporated the spiderweb embossed interleaving shown. Tatham Stamp Company got in trouble for issuing unmarked fakes so when they produced the T6 booklets each facsimile was marked on the back using the old Scott Catalog CSA numbers of that era, with different typefaces for each stamp variety. Later TASCO CSA replicas switched to the new two-digit Scott numbers and all facsimiles then used the same typeface. -Dunc |

TASCO assembled a series of booklets for beginning US collectors, but only the T6 contained replicas, the others included genuine stamps, often examples to help collectors identify minor varieties. The T6 booklet, titled "The Postage Stamps of the Confederate States of America", provided 14 facsimiles of the CSA stamps, including one type that was printed but never issued. -Dunc PS: These T6 booklets are not expensive, although they are sometimes offered for as much as $125 to $150 on ebay. They typically sell for about $10 to $25. |

Quote: but only the T6 contained replicas Not quite true. Insert volume T7 contained blocks of 4 of the 14 reproductions and was made to insert between pages 4 and 5 of T6. I have the scans somewhere and will endeavor to find them. [posted elsewhere at SCF I am sure]. Type T7 exists in 2 different coloured envelopes, Pink and Blue. My pink envelope still has the gum on the flap which never ceases to amaze me ! In the meantime......some of the many forgeries/reproductions from the Suez Canal Company. Londonbus1 |

Pretty good reproductions of Mandate Palestine, this one being the 90m Bistre. It has a propaganda overprint. |

The Serrane Guide, published by the APS, offers a lot of good information on fakes & forgeries. The J. Barefoot guides are useful. For my Portuguese stuff, I use the D.J. Davies Guide to Forgeries of Portugal & Colonies, which includes also reprints.
Regretfully, I don't have decent scanning capability on my home system. |

Robert - thanks for starting this interesting thread! It would be useful to learn from others experience concerning fakes etc. Transvaal is unfortunately a collective area heavily plagued by fakes, reprints etc. And I have lots of them. If I do not have the authentic stamp, I simply use the fake as a spacefiller in my album. Which is quite frequent for the classic Transvaal...a sample page from my digital collection, only fakes! ...and even more Transvaal fakes here... http://Blaamand.opendrive.com/files...ransvaal.pdf-Jon- |

I sometimes use reproductions to fill album spaces. I recently tried to buy some of these from an ebay vendor and was less than pleased. It's often hard to tell from a picture on a listing- they looked ok but- the ones I got just stood out like sore thumbs on my pages, not even close to looking real, one was a set of the Washington Franklin blue papers- these were a distinct shade of blue- which is off, these stamps usually look gray- and they were noticeably larger than the real ones, they stick out over the top of the frame in my hingeless album. There is a bright white frame around the image and the perfs look really bad. The seller is agreeing to take them back. Worse- the listing clearly says each stamp is 'indelibly marked' as 'Copy' on the back. These were not. This is in line with prior experiences. A lot of the sellers of this stuff are sort of sketchy. This seller has very high positive feedback, I fail to see why. |

Thread is bumped from 2015. Maybe there are some more fakes and forgeries to be shown now. This 1948 Soviet Zone hand overprint (HOP) of Gotha should be in district 16 (Erfurt), but instead shows an "8". So, this one is probably the easiest HOP forgery to identify as such. |

Since there isn't even a District 8 you have to wonder what the forger was thinking. |
