There are 16 NY post office that are putting out special postmarks to commemorate 150th anniversary of the route of A. Lincoln/s funeral train.

I already sent three requests - two to NY and one to Baltimore. I got back the postmarked envelopes from Schenectady, NY. There were three also available from Illinois but I found out about them too late and missed the deadline.

I am sending stamped envelopes requesting postmarks to all 16 post offices with SASE for returns.I've not done this before but it seemed like something interesting to try. Any suggestions or ideas?

Q/ Have you considered hand-drawn cachets for these covers?

The nice thing about people with talent is that there are so many of them that you can get pretty good work for peanuts.

Grab the Google StreetView of the rail station today, for example, and have a kid from the local JC sketch it onto the cover ... you can be practical (have the artist add the sketch after the posted cover is in your hands) or you can be principled.

Cheers,

Sounds like ikey has a really good idea, especially for those three Illiios post offices you were too late for.
