I just got home from Office Depot with a new Epson Workforce Pro WF 3640. I told the tech what I needed it for and this was his recommendation. He also said I had a 30 day trial period and if not happy I could bring it back for a full refund. He also gave me $50.00 for my old printer. I am a happy camper right now. I haven't tried it yet tho. As soon as I get it hooked up I will report back... |

Works great. I have printed several album pages. I'm still having trouble getting everything set up properly but it does a really nice job with the card stock. |

I have a Brother myself, though my consideration was the ability to print and scan over sized pages. Mine will print and scan 11"x17". |

I would dearly love to find an oversize wide printer I could use to print on Scott or Lighthouse pages. I bought an HP wide printer a few years back that I wound up taking back because it apparently was only programmed to print certain sizes of paper and I couldn't get it adjusted to print on Scott pages. I have also never had luck with any product from HP.
I am open to any suggestions here- I am not the greatest at anything involving computers or printers so that hurts me in my search, I guess. |

When I was in the market for a printer to do album/exhibit pages, I asked some of the guys at the club who are exhibitors and judges what they would recommend. Hands down it was for an extra-wide, and most agreed that an inkjet could give you better resolution of colors and images than a laser. The worry about ink smearing when mounting material is not the experience of anyone I know, if the ink was dry before mounting up the stamps.
I ended up going with an extra-wide since it could handle a range of paper sizes and grades. Mine is an Epson Work Force WF-7620. But watch out for the number of ink cartridges required to do a color print. They can get expensive, and will dry up. So you have to plot your print jobs. Since toner is not so finicky a laser might get around all that, so if you don't plan to show off your pages, then a wide laser might be good enough. |

If I were replacing my printer right now, I'd try the Brother MFC-J6520DW. Full 11"x17" print/scan/copy/fax and reasonably priced ink cartridges. Though the MFC-J6925DW has new firmware that minimizes ink use and two paper trays so I could keep my album pages in one tray and normal pages in the other... |

Just purchased a new Black and White Laser $100 Wi Fi and double side print Recommended retail $149 (I got mine through Gumtree-closing down sale) MY current Brother HL2132 still works but is getting tired printing all the Steiner Pages. That cost me $48 if I recall , and going by toner replacements it has done about 18,000 pages. (and a new drum was $30) |

I still have a Brother HL-1650 and still works fine. I will probably get a color laser at some point. |

Printers cost next to nothing. Its the ink cartridges that is costly.

Littleriverphil, I did that once. I did not like the quality of the printing. My pages all looked like there was a double transfer next to all the letters, and when I went back to my old HP cartridges they were once again razor sharp!

Agreed Peter, but they still cost a bundle. I believe I once bought an HP printer with cartridges because it was cheaper than buying just the cartridges by themselves!

Carefully read all warrantee info before using 'refills'. When purchasing a printer you should calculate original price and the cost of consumables for the expected life of the printer. This should include paper, ink/toner, drums, transfer rolls, etc. What looks like a good deal at first can often not look so good if you run these numbers.
Frankly after buying a lot of printers (40+) over the years I HATE trying to calculate the actual cost of a printer; it often is not easy and can suck a lot of time. Don |
