I am wondering what would be a way to show stamps in such a manner that can be printed but somehow keep the stamps contrasted with the background.

Example (credit to Rod222 for the hint to ask)

Here is a good example. Printing this on a laser printer is not usually an issue but when you print something like this on inkjets it 1) uses a lot of ink and 2) often saturates the paper unless you use photo paper/

I wanted to create some references pages that could be in PDF but all printable and looking for something that can easily be done.I need some contrasting method (half tones, shadows, etc) that is inkjet friendly since I want to create these in color.

Looking for feedback on thoughts or examples.

Tough question Angore,
I have not met with any solution, with a cheap laser.

Depends if the file was originally generated with 'layers' or not. If the original file has the background color generated as a separate layer then it is fairly easy to make that layer 'non-printable'.

Properly developed PDF files are typically generated with background layers for just this very reason. All bets are off if the original PDF was not properly generated.

Ditto for image files. If they are composed of multiple layers then turning off the background layer is easy. Higher end image applications (and their file formats) like Photoshop and PaintShopPro support layers. But of course if the image you have in hand is only a JPG or other file format that does not support layers than you are hosed. The only option at that point is to get out your favorite image app and use a fill tool to 'paint' the background white. There are also apps which will 'batch' the fill process if you have a lot of files to modify.

All,

I am sorry I was not clear. The goal is to create pdfs from a program like Scribus. I would keep as PDF for soft copy version but want them printable as well. Other than using a black background to give contrast with the printed page, I want to use some other method such as half-tones, light shading, etc.

I am looking for an inkjet friendly method to get the contrast since seeing the perfs or diecuts clearly is key.

If I wanted to remove the black from an existing pdf I would likely convert to an image and using an image program like Photoshop, Gimp to remove or remove the black.
