Here is a patriotic cover memorializing the death of Col. Ellsworth, the first officer killed during the Civil War, and the first martyr of the Revolutionary War, Gen. Warren. Ellsworth was killed by an angry innkeeper when Ellsworth removed the Confederate flag that was
flying from the roof of the inn.
