Richard Wright (1908-1960) is the 25th individual depicted in the U.S.P.S. Literary Arts series. Wright is known for direct, powerful and sometimes controversial novels dealing with racial issues and themes. His most noted work is Native Son, the first Book of the Month Club choice written by an African-American. His autobiography Black Boy is another well-known works. The issue ceremony for this stamp will take place at the Chicago Post Office where he once worked.
