Hi. Does anyone know what this purple overprint signifies? Looks like it's probably a letter L, or could be a pound sign. Thanks.

Good thinking, but it's definitely printed on the front of the stamp. Hard to see how such a print could come out back to front like that. I think it's a stylised L.

I know it was printed on the front ringo..I used my software to get rid of some stuff to see the letter better...It is the front I was working with...I took your image and reversed it and added to the number "2" and added because of bad inking..Sure looks like a reversed number "2"..Just my opinion though.

Yes, I understand you. I just thought it worth pointing out, as I can't see how the print could be reversed, except if it were printed on the back and was just showing through. For that reason, I don't think it is a 2, but in any case, what could it be for?

Hi. Forgive me reviving such an ancient thread, but I never did get to the bottom of this one. Now i'm about to move my Austria stamps around, I was wondering if anyone could shed light on this - be it an "L", a "2" or a "£" sign?
