Hi, completely new to stamps collection. My dad passed away in the 80s and my aunt had been holding on to his stamp collection until reecently. She gave them to me a year or two ago and I've only started to look at them now. The collection is about 200-300 stamps with a wide variety from all over the world. Any help on what they are and possible value would be much appreciated as I don't even know where to start.

Welcome to the forum!

You have a collection of common (mostly Great Britain) stamps. The vast majority of worldwide stamps from post WWII, while collectable, are basically of no monetary value. The oldest stamp pictured is a US Internal Revenue "Documentary" stamp (Scott catalogue R173) used on taxable documents and was in use from 1898 on. This stamp is still of minimal value at .25

You would do well to pass this collection on to a child who might be interested in taking up the hobby.

Cheers!

Brian

Welcome to the Forum. If you are curious about what the stamps depict, or how they are valued, you might want to find the Scott stamp catalogs at your local library. Stamps are a great way to learn about history, geography, and other cultures.

Although the collection might date back to the 80s, that first scan shows a 'booklet pane' issued in 2002, so the collection has perhaps been added to more recently. It's probably the most valuable item in monetary terms, but only about £2 I would think.

I like the suggestion to offer this starter collection to a youngster who is interested in geography, history, or global culture. But if that isn't possible, you might post the lot on ebay. Better quality scans would help. The group may fetch 10 cents per stamp and help an aspiring collector.
