Something going on with this R6c. Found it in a lot of 20 R6c's that I was going through. I believe I see the doubling in the numeral "2" on each side. There is also something funky going on with the "Bank Check" inscription. What do you think?

To me, the "Bank Check" inscription looks like it could be a dry print. I think you may be right on the numerals, though. Also, nice printed cancel! |

Thanks. Out of the lot of 14 R6c's that I got, 12 of them were cancelled by "M.D.B.", all in January of 1865. Someone must have soaked them off of a lot of checks that they got. Unfortunately, because they're no longer on document, I can't find out what M.D.B. is. The checks these stamps were on would have probably told me that. |

Inasmuch as I expertize revenues for the Philatelic Foundation, I think I am probably something of an authority too, don't you think?

The treasurer of the Fitchburg Railroad Co. had the initials M.D.B. This is from Howard Beaumont's 1972 "Printed Cancellations" supplement to the American Revenuer. Quote: Fitchburg Railroad
Type 1. "M. D. B. I DEC. I 1864." printed vertically reading up in three lines of Roman caps 81h mm high. First line 19 mm long; second line 11 mm; third line 13 mm.
Type 2. "M. D. B. I 1863." printed vertically reading up in two lines of Roman caps 3% mm high. First line 19 mm long; second line 13 mm. |

Yes revcollector, I would think that you would be considered an authority on Revenue Stamps. Pretty impressive. |

revcollector, I'm afraid I haven't seen any of your posts. It's great that there is so much knowledge here! |
