Per Wikipedia: Tangier for most of the 20th century was an international city which explains why I have a classic French stamp (not shown) also with a Tangier overprint:

KGB, Sorry I have no Spanish Tangier overprinted stamps, but here is one of my three French Tanger overprints which date from 1918-1928:

Tangiers has a certain romance to it, I think. Something like that of Casablanca during WWII.

The Spanish overprint uses an accent (TÁNGER), though I wonder if there are exceptions.

Aha! I found at least one exception! It's interesting too.
