Fake or forgery would be the more accurate terms. Facsimile would generally apply to a stamp or cover that was not made to fool - in other words it would be indelibly and boldly marked on the front as a facsimile so no one would ever think it was possibly real. Fake or forgery are terms that would be used when either the stamp or cover or both are made to deceive by not being obviously and indeliby marked as not what they are purporting to be.
Confederate stamps and covers are very heavily forged/faked, and some are done with quite a bit of expertise. There are so many out there that it is usually the best approach to assume every one you come across is not real until expertised as being real.
Thanks Kimo, someone still wanted it as a forged / fake stamp, it went for around 6 bucks. I guess there are buyers interested in forgeries. If Confederate stamps and covers are very heavily forged/faked I would hate to have to pay to get everyone expertised. I only sell few of these on covers and could not tell if any are fake or not.
