First off- A big THANKS to everyone that replayed to my first post: https://goscf.com/t/45018You have all been very helpful and informative! I'm still in the process of figuring out the best format for taking pictures of the old stamp collection, which I will refer to as "Karl's Stamp Book" However, I did want to share the first page to get some tips or feedback on how it turned out. So far the biggest issues are resolution and lighting. Any and all advice is welcome!

A serious concern for you is the paper these stamps are mounted on. The discoloration in the stamps is from a chemical reaction started on the notebook paper. I would recommend a good soak in warm water to safely remove the stamps from the page and (hopefully) clean the stamps up a bit! |

I'd put three or four drops of liquid dish soap into a pyrex container mix with distilled water and heat to 110 F in microwave. Add stamps a few at at time. After washing , rinse in cool clean distilled water. |

Newbie, it's pretty hard to ruin stamps such as these if one uses distilled water and a drop or two of pure liquid dish soap. I suspect you'll have to soak these a good long time, but I may be wrong. Just don't try to force the stamps off the paper. If you're uncertain about the process, just rinse everything in distilled water and let the stamps dry.
Hopefully someone else will chime in and explain how they dry the stamps so that they stay flat. I'm no expert and my 'method' is pretty elementary. |

Another tip. After soaking the stamps off the notebook paper, lay them on blotter paper if you can find it, or smooth paper towels, cover with same and place a heavy book on tip to press the stamps flat. Other wise, they will have a tendency to curl. |

Even with all the concerns about the notebook paper, you gotta love the reference to "UNTIED STATES". A spelling mistake probably typical of the age of the person who originally put the stamp "album" together. |

You thin that was a mistake? Maybe the collector was a "Son of the Confederacy"?
