rafa, why do you include 57 in your title? Do you believe there was a second issue of this stamp in a second color?

You must be more informed than I am. I have only seen the one issue (1955.) I always assumed simply that the color of this issue changed over time because of fading.

I've just looked at your link and it shows that the series was printed over two years. As far as I can tell the only variation for the airman is that thick paper was also used. (I wonder is the thick paper explains some if the color variation.)

Thick paper can not exchange colour in this varaiant because paper would be brighter and porous, and this is a fresh olive-green color.

Why not have a different colour AND a different type of paper for 2 printings [or more???] during two years??? Why are we so keen on having JUST one version when a definitive stamp is concerned?????

Gale, as far as I understand it, this particular stamp had only one printing, though two types of paper were used.
