Hello everyone. Hope all are enjoying their summer! Recently I purchased a large lot of George Washington 1 cent and 1 cent Benjamin Franklins- 100 plus in a bag. I found this specific stamp expressing 544 written in the back of the stamp.None of these stamps were checked by the antique vendor who sold me the huge lot of stamps. He just wanted to sell all the stamps together for a limited price. On the back of the stamp expresses in pencil noting the number 544. I checked with gauge and it is perforated 11. Is this what a Scott 544 looks like? Is the previous collector correct whomever wrote this on the back of the stamp? Did I truly find a treasure here?

Hello, and welcome!
This stamp is perforated 10, and not perforated 11, so unfortunately is not Scott 544! Sorry for the bad news. |

Hi Wert - yours IS perf. 11 and blazenstar's is perf. 10. You are not missing anything about the perforation gauge. Your stamp is Scott 498, perf. 11 and blazenstar's is one of the perf. 10 stamps. |

This is showing the stamp on a 10 on the gauge..it does not appear to be a 10 if the lines are to match |

This is the same stamp on an 11 marking.. So which one do you all believe it could be? I have images of marking on 10 and on an 11 on gauge |

Blazenstar, it is hard to tell, but on at least one photo you seem to be using the perf gauge incorrectly. The black circles are supposed to fit inside the tips of the stamp.

lets rule this out..is the first photo a 10 marking? because the main line is not matched correctly. I will try to take another 11 marking by a photo..ty for all your assistance..will post it shortly |

blazenstar - seems to me a perf 10. I hope you don't mind me asking - where are your tongs? |

Thank you Petert4522. I was curious about that too! Blazenstar, you have a perf 10 stamp.
