Hi,

Thanks again for all your time.
Here you can find the 2 pictures, it would be a shock for me to have a rare piece among my WA.

According to the Premier Postal site, the Day Dawn PO was opened 1894 and closed 25/10/1930; Gabanintha opened 3/8/1906 and closed 26/9/1918.

Crikey, Codex you set the Cat amongst the pigeons ! :)

Precis:

1. Both Gabanintha and (close by) Naneen, are Ghost towns
2. Gabanintha was a gold mining town
3. Gabanintha held "The Mountain View" Gold Mine lease ...(not sure here, maybe a copper mine)
4. In the newspaper 1911 The Mountain View Gold mine, lists "GABANINTRA"
5. If, Gabanintra had Post Office facilities, then you would have the ONLY postmark in history :)

Your postmark does look like GABANINTRA but I am sure we are mis reading Gabanintha :) (Aboriginal name, meaning unknown)

Both your postmarks are nice SON "socked on the nose"

My job here is done, I can no longer assist
You need to enquire to the Western Australian Philatelic Society
Request assistance with current scarcity and approx value.
I am sure some members would welcome your scan

If you do, please ask what the 8d (eight pence) stamp would cover?
Parcel? registration etc, seems a high value
Please post back.

Cautionary advice: Scarcity does not always translate to Valuable in $ terms :)
certainly in study terms.

Thanks again for all your time and effort put on this topic.
A question take only a few seconds, but the answer may take a lot of time.
I just sent an email to the PSWA, will keep you updated once I receive an answer.
Is so sad that we have lost the meaning of some Aboriginal names.
I will make a special place for this stamp in my album and will keep looking for other nice town postmarks.

You're welcome codex,
I hope I have increased your enjoyment of Philately,
that is the major aim.

Hi folks

My first post on these boards (be gentle with me!), though I am a regular poster on matters philatelic on other boards. This is a great thread, and I am hoping just the place to find some help with my query.

As a collector of QV British Commonwealth, with a burgeoning sub-collection of QV blocks, I recently picked up some Western Australian blocks. Among them are a few watermark varieties that don't appear to be listed in my SG catalogue. I guess they perhaps are listed in more specialised Australian tomes... hoping that a regional specialist here will be able to shed some light, if I post up some scans. Is that okay?

Cheers,
Danski
