Hi all.
I am mounting my Western Australia (Love the swan on this stamps).
To identify them, we have to see the watermarks, for this stamp there are 2 types:
First watermark - crown CC
Second watermark - crown CA.

But as you can see in the picture there is like a double lined Zero or letter O.
Any idea where that come from?

The "O" is open on top, so it looks like a "C" to me!

This is from the border of the sheet. Something like this, although the Western Australia paper may have had a different inscription.

I assume the Crown CC paper also had a similar border.

There's something dicky here.
Please identify the perforation guage.
I am not the full bottle on these, but it appears the Wmk is sideways on these issues,
If that is the case, the "O" should be of vertical arrangement. (If Peter's example is correct)
I'll need to do some further study.

That's unless it is the "O" in the interpanneau gutter. (But I figure that "O" would be larger on your example)
At the moment, I make it that your example, could be any one of 9 stamps.

Thank you.
Caveat: Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I am fumbling about.

Here is my take:

We have 4 possibles (Stanley Gibbons)
1876 #68 Ochre wmkCC
1878 #69 Bistre wmk CC
1879 #70 yellow ochre wmk CC
1882 #76 yellow ochre Wmk CA

The Postmark appears to be a 12 bar numeral "7" which makes that
NORTHAM western Australia (Not far from where I live)
That would date it around 1891

If that is so, one would surmise it is #76 yellow ochre CV 50c (but who cares)

If that is so the watermarked paper would be
watermark cr CA
240 bits to the sheet arranged in 4 sheets of 60
in 10 rows of 6
the panes are surrounded by a single line, and divided by an unwatermarked space 6mm wide
the upper panes are divided from the lower panes by a space 25mm wide containing the words CROWN AGENTS in double line letters 12mm high

You may be able to measure your "O"

Hope that helps

PS: always measure your perf guage accurately. P12 x 14 is > $1000

Oops. Sorry I misread you.
Literature--yes
Sites...none that I know of (except here)

Yes there are books codex.
I can give you assistance on Western Australia's.

All Australian Postmarks are a very specialised field.
I have two volumes of Victoria (Circa $100) that only covers towns A-h if I recall.

You would have to be Midas, and have 3 lifetimes to study all of them.
Western Australian Postmarks often sell around $15 for the not so common.

Kudos to you for your interest and enthusiasm.

PS: I have a dodgy memory here, (I am an old fossil)
I think I recall the watermarked paper, we are discussing, was originally intended for Ceylon.
Due to the differing formats, the West Australian stamps were printed and took on the border watermarks of the sheet
Hence your "O" (and others)
If I substantiate my suggestion later on, I'll post.

Also, if this is correct, then Peterh's image of the dandy roll is correct.

Hi Codexluminati
This stamp also exists with the watermark completely missing as well.
I have one which I think I posted before.
According to Gibbons, the watermark missing is unusual, but would only be of interest to a specialist collector.
Regards
Horamakhet

Your "Gabanintra" should read "Gabanintha" ?
Depending on the quality of the hammer strike, you may have a very valuable Postmark.
A piece of rare Western Australian Philately

I have 2 listings (rarity scaling 2002) rated as 1 and 0-1

1=Known to exist in very low numbers
0-1 = Possible to reputably exists but never sighted.
