While I still adore the regal Quebec Tercentenary Issue, and delve deeper into the quagmire of the Large Queens, there's one issue that continues to tickle me more than all others -- the Diamond Jubilee.I'm a used collector, and the Jubilee offers lovely cds, squared circle, duplex, and orb cancels. I'm missing only copies of the $3 and $5... have a look at my scans on my personal site ( www.vfstamp.com). A few questions for enthusiasts of this issue.. are the Winnipeg magenta cancels on the highest values regarded as less valuable than regular black ink cancels? What's the story behind these? And why does one my $4 still have what seems like its OG? Color variations are present but nothing like the Small Queens...still interesting though. Unfortunately, I'm dreadful at identifying re-entries. So yeah, this post is just to celebrate my favourite issue and find other enthusiasts to share and compare. Let me know what you think of my little collection (I recently added a whole new set to 50c from Eastern Auctions, XF with cds or orbs -- but not shown).

And I agree with you ! You may know me most for my re-entries but I do have many little groups of stamps in my collection. And that's what philately is all about, isn't it? The Magenta cancels from Winnipeg (mainly) are more desireable than most other used Jubillee stamps. I heard they were used on bundles of newspapers. And there was one other town but I forget which one. PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE MANITOBA JUNE 30 1897 TOR & GRAVENHURST M.C. GTR NO 1 AU 30 97 |

I think there are alot of shades of the Jubillee stamps but they are not collected much for their shades. Here is one I found that stuck out in my mind. An 8c that is supposed to be a Violet Brown shade but this one is almost pure black ! Nice Montreal CDS, too. |

Being from Canada, I think you guys are very much biased! Just kidding of course, they are beautiful stamps. Especially if you see the complete set, the colors are gorgeous. But then, all engraved stamps outshine the others in my humble opinion.

Peter,
The US stamps are just as nice and there are more issues to collect. Although the Columbian and Trans-Mississippi Issues are similar to the Jubillees, the Pan-American Issue is one of my fav's.

jimjung, I bought an 8 cent jubilee similar to yours from an auction that was sold as a "changeling" - I wonder if that was common for that denomination. |

Very beautiful set indeed! I'm thrilled to see the colours and shades. I'm a collector of the 1935 Silver Jubilee series, and now getting attracted to this set too. |

I must admit I never quite understood the popularity of these stamps. They seem an obvious play to stamp collectors. Each stamp has the same design(aside from any reentries). They are just different colors and denominations.
While I do avidly collect the many beautiful stamps of Canada, I don't think I will ever feel a need to have a complete set of these. |

Here are mine, precancel style-U... there are also style-T precancels, they have a wavy line in the middle. I still need quite a few. Most are very scarce. |
