Quote: Each stamp has the same design(aside from any reentries). They are just different colors and denominations. That's why I think stamp collecting is so great -- different people like different things, but there is something for everyone. I personally like the look of sets -- like many definitive sets -- that vary only in color and denomination. These engraved Canadian Jubilees are beautiful. |

same design, different values and different colours: A common characteristic of the small queens, large queens, maple leaf and numerals, Edwards, Georges V etc....That was the standard of the times, from 1868 to 1924, with only a few exceptions, I guess. |

Crouse27, some beautiful examples you have. I love the $1 and $3 values, and a nice 6c as well. Love them!
Gilles, beautiful $5...but you already know that of course. The magenta cancels are odd to me...I rarely see actual black CDSs on the dollar values (rollers and magentas are more common).
And props to Jim for the black 8c variety. Very cool. I want it!
For all you re-entry lovers, I really wish I could spot them better; I go cross-eyed even trying; and if it's not in Unitrade, I don't even know where to look. Even if I found one, I would have no idea how to value it.
And I know everyone loves their MNH Jubes, but M philately is just dull in my view...especially when this issue offers such cool postmarks...just a difference in taste! :)

By the way...aside from nice CDS cancels...anyone collect squared circles or Orbs on Jubilees? I love ORBS...in addition to my $2 Orb here are some new ones from Eastern... |

Peter--I don't think I could do it...firstly, it not a huge interest of mine (vis-a-vis LQ papers/watermarks/postmarks etc), and I simply go cross-eyed.
I know re-enteries can command huge premiums but...do you think I'll be able to live in ignorance until my law studies end? haha |

Stallzer, these are beauties! I have a question though. On the young queens' forehead, on the 20 cents, is a very strong line above her left eye. It seems to look different from the 50 cents. Is this line really part of the etching, or is it a slip-up?

Peter, that may be the plastic holder, I think. One more that I think is right for this thread. The Jubillee set was released on June 19, 1897 and someone used this stamp in Chatham, New Brunswick 3 days later. Re-entries don't have to be beat up looking. Here's the high value Jubillee with the position 10 Re-entry in P and T of POSTAGE, now listed in Unitrade as 65ii. I would give this a VF rating but then it's my stamp. :-) |

Unfortunately, not used (as per the requirements of this thread), but I thought it an interesting example, and possible Re-Entry. I checked re-entries.com, and it looks closest to his third example on http://www.re-entries.com/jubilee6_6c.html Note the lettering in Canada. I also find the horizontal line through the crown interesting. It isn't quite straight, but I don't think it is a scratch or a plate crack. I think I can also see some indications of this on Re-Entries.com, but I don't see it on my other copy. Does anyone else have this on their copies? |

How about a giant sized "R". Largest one I have seen and it's the size of the stamp in purple. And a nice VANCOUVER BC SP 23 97 postmark. I haven't seen that 6c but I don't go out of my way to collect the Jubillee re-entries. I just keep them if I find them. I agree that is the 3rd one on re-entries.com - nice find ! |

Jim, a query (or for anyone who wishes to opine). Do nice used se-tenant pairs/strips command a significant premium over the individual values? Obviously, much depends on the specific stamp and face value (1/2 cent strips, for instance, are pretty common). Here's my trio of the same #52: Can anyone draw some general guidelines for valuing used se-tenant examples? Or is this all completely irrelevant...? |
