Hello guys,

As a color blind I try to avoid the #29 and #30 issue due to the gargantuan amount of shade on those issues.

Now I have this one, which I belive is Gray Violet... but my eyes are hurting trying to find a matching shade on ebay...

Any opinion would be greatly welcome!

Although you may get somewhere using the internet for colour matching is fraught with problems and highly unreliable. You have to conside thing such as the lightling conditions used to obtain the image, the white colour balance the camera was using at the time. The colour space used during the capture and the colour accuracy of the camera. They all differ.

Then and this a majore source of possible errors how is you screen calibrated and showing the image and even what ing conditions you are viewing your screen under.

As colour from a screen is basically a combination of that emitted by LED's or similar and the colour of a physical stamp is created by subtraction various wavelengths from white light that is another source of error

You may well get an impression of colour but getting a definative answer is most difficult.

As you may tell I am far from sure how reliable the best intentioned opinion will be. I hope it works for you - Good luck.

Wert,

That a good way to find it I guess, the only problem is that I see about 10% of the shade on your programe. There is basically around 5 different colors for me on the Triangle on your Screen shot :( .. color blind...

I was hopping for someone telling me ''It is THIS color'' but I think it won'T happen :)

I will just call it Redish #29 lol no more headache !

Thx!

With all of the caveats about trying to identify colors on a website from a non-calibrated scanner, if I saw that picture, my first reaction would be "red lilac."

Here are some 15c colors - but these weren't all scanned at the same time with any calibration, so use them for entertainment only, not to identify any specific color/shade.

C.

I have a chart given to me with shades according to year/paper. etc by an expert when I was out for coffee after our local stamp club..If I find it, I will post it..Too bad, he had a huge display one night with shades galore.

The reason I said salmon/pink was I remember seeing that colour in the display and held it in my hands..just my opinion.

...and here's a lot from the Brigham sale that shows you what you're up against...

*You can see the 15c section online at: https://stampauctionnetwork.com/BG/BG1.cfm

or download the catalog as a .pdf from the brighamauctions.com website.

29b, a Firth Group IV stamp, more of a reddish purple shade but this one is from 29b family. Someone has played with perfs too. The cancel is a fairly common one from early to mid 1870s, probably Ottawa.
