No Cancellation On Postage Stamps

Are stamps still cancelled by Canada Post? I've received numerous mailings from a variety of places in Canada lately and on only one envelope has the stamp been visibly cancelled.

I live in the United States, collect Canada, and receive a significant amount of mail from Canada. I find that about 80% of the mail I receive is not cancelled. A number of years ago it was totally obliterated with smear cancels. Today, the smears are gone and if cancelled, bear neatly applied rubber stamp cancels.

I Rarely receive cancelled letters from Canada. I find it strange because even junk mail is cancelled here in the US.

Here's the scoop on this. The handstamps that are used to cancel the stamps at local Postal Outlets have the name and address of the Postal Outlet on the handstamp itself. When it is used for cancelling the stamp and the letter sent to the sorting warehouses, the letter is mistakenly sorted using the address of the postal outlet on the handstamp. The it is sent back to the Postal Outlet.

I had this happen several times years ago when the new handstamps were introduced and had to remail my mail. Now they don't poatmark the mail and my mail gets sent out.
