Patriotic Envelope

Hi All

Just yesterday there was an antique show here in town that my wife and I visited. While there, I was lucky enough to get some old postcards and also got this patriotic cover. The price was surprising cheap too. When the cover is opened up, there is a list of the prices for drinks etc inside. I sure wish we had those prices today

What is also interesting is that the address side of this cover is on the 'flap' side. This was published by the Ralph-Clarke Store Limited and it is circa 1925.

Has anyone else in this forum seen anything similar to this?

That I a beaut, Bujutsu. I do wonder about one thing. The cover says they cater to babies. I wonder what they gave them to eat, and especially to drink?

Did you notice the reference to "Saratoga Chips"? (under FISH)

On this very day in 1853 (August 24)
George Crum, an African/Native American cook, is widely credited with having developed the potato chip, at Moon's Lake House in Saratoga Springs, NY
Popular legend has it that a customer complained that his French fries were too soft and thick,
so the chef sliced them paper thin and fried them to a crisp, seasoned heavily with salt.
The customer, instead of being disgusted, loved them and the chips became popular, known as "Saratoga chips" or "potato crunches".

The restaurant burned down four times and is now a rent-able place for lakeside stays and parties.

The Carls-Right Hotel was known by several names, including the Grand Union Hotel and the Hotel Barclay. It was torn down many years ago to make way for a parking lot. Here's a brief history:

I noticed that the "Walker House" is also mentioned in wt1's posting. I think I have a patriotic postcard of that hotel too. If so, I'll dig it out and post it in here as well.

I have a Carl's Rite menu/card like Bujutsu's in my collection. I've seen an almost identical menu/card from the Walker House, under the same management. However since I collect only used, I passed on the unused Walker House.

Thanks all for your input on this thread.

I mistaken thought I had a patriotic card of the "Walker House", when in fact, it is of the "Carls-Rite Hotel" as well. Anyway, I think this is just as colourful as the patriotic cover from the same hotel.
