What kind of postage is this? I find it interesting that a motel was able to sell rubber-stamped postage. I'd like to research this type of postage a little more but don't even know what terminology to search for.
Back then lots of companies did, much more than this day and age seems like? Nowadays everything comes with a preprinted 'stamp' like: "Presorted First-Class mail U.S. Postage Paid Portland, OR permit no. 447". The only exceptions to the rule are the non-profits who mostly use the same stamp lately!
There was a time - when you went to the post office - you had to line up behind all kinds of business people getting their business meter charged with postage. And corporate logos / texts were not at all unusual on the imprint.
Here's a piece I acquired a year or so ago, thought I'd posted it here, but perhaps not. It's an unused envelope with a specimen meter postage on it.
Looks to be a Type II (Holme's Specialized Catalogue) Pitney Bowes machine. This is postmarked 1938, whereas the catalogue listed the earliest Type II as 1936, so I'll assume the SPECIMEN aspect of this is the Lux Radio Theatre advert.
