After collecting U.S. Stamps off and on since 1974, I decided to continue my dad's Italian stamp collection (started by him when he was a little kid in the '50s growing up in Italy). Problem is that I cannot for the life find a catalog or book solely discussing Italian stamps. I am, at this point, not looking for info on Italian states/colonies, just regular issue Italian stamps. Any info on a solid reference book would be appreciated.

SG does an Italian/Swiss catalgue, and there are specialist Italian catalogues. One or two listed here -

There are a few choices, but I would look for a used Sassone as a first choice, or a Unificato, as a second choice. If price is not a concern, new is fine, too, of course, but the used will help identify things, even if the prices are not current.

Sassone is sort of the standard in catalogue numbering for Italy in the worldwide market.
