Like I was saying Is there any good way to remove scotch tape from a stamp. I came across some with it on them. Some things I have been reading say to not try and remove. Some say put the stamp in a ice box .

I suspect that either Pure Citrus Orange or Goo Gone will get the tape off without too much damage. |

May get the tape off but not the stains. Nothing will get the stains off. There are threads on this topic where all that can be said has been said about the matter. The search window is your friend. |

Turpentine. Some stamps I soaked in turps 20 or so years ago are still in good condition, no adverse affects |

YeaPolska Turpentine!! Really? Did the smell of the "Turps" every go away??? Or, does the stamps still smell from the "turps" after 20 years?
Just curious. If the smell goes away, I might try it.
Thanks, Hal

I tried Pure Citrus on scotch tape and, agreed, the tape was gone but the stain remained. |

The smell of turps does go away. Haven't done it for a while. What you're after is a solvent that will dissolve the glue but not the inks on the stamp or cancel, & turps is it. One stamp at a time in a shallow dish or some such. Once the tape has lifted place the stamp in some fresh turps & work away any residue glue with a small soft paintbrush. When that's done wash the stamp in warm water with maybe a quarter drop of soap/bowl of water.
For getting rid of stains try "Chloramine-T" It's an anti-foxing paper bleach used by book archivists to stop rust & other nasties attacking paper. I use this specifically on the first Polish definitives of 1919/1920. Yes, it gets rid of the gum as well but it does preserve the stamp |

nail polish remover (acetone) can work but ink on some stamps can also fade or wash away so be careful. Try it on a few penny stamps first.
I did post some before and after photos here in the past in another thread. Some had amazing transformations and looked like tape had never touched them while others cleaned up a little and others with no affect |
