Here is an example of USPS Tracking:

Picked Up
Aug-29-15, 14:19 PM, BEDFORD, TX 76021

Arrived at USPS Facility
Sep-02-15, 08:57 AM, MEMPHIS, TN 38136

Arrived at USPS Destination Facility
Sep-07-15, 02:03 AM, FEDERAL WAY, WA 98003

PROCESSED THROUGH USPS SORT FACILITY
Sep-07-15, 06:31 AM, FEDERAL WAY 98003

Departed USPS Destination Facility
Sep-07-15, 06:31 AM, FEDERAL WAY, WA 98003

DEPART USPS SORT FACILITY
Sep-07-15, 13:35 PM, FEDERAL WAY 98003

Note:
Picked up in Bedford, TX but never processed or departed?

3 days later...
Arrived in Memphis, TX but never processed or departed?

5 days later...
Arrived USPS Facility Federal Way
4 hours later processed through USPS sort facility
At the same time...
Departed USPS Destination Facility

Somehow it made it's way back to the USPS sort facility because
7 hours later it departed USPS sort facility for the second time.

I probably will not see the package for another 48 to 96 hours,
because that is what other packages from the Federal Way Facility have taken. After all it is 300 miles away!

The PMG closed a about 1/2 of its distribution centers (82) on 1 Jan 2015 that has significantly slowed mail delivery. We get first class mail about 3 out of 5 days... sometimes 2 out of 5 days since the closures.

But still the junk and garbage mail arrives everyday, with out delay, for a small percentage cost of what we are forced to pay.

It used to be you could figure on first class letter mail being delivered almost anywhere in the country in about 2-3 days. Now a week to ten days seems to be the norm if it's going more than a state or two away.

I live in Iowa and once I ordered from a New York dealer. It went through Honolulu(!) while en route to me. Too bad they don't back stamp anymore. That would have made an interesting cover.

This is tempting fate, but I have to say that the post in GB is extremely good at present. Whilst there aren't as many collections and deliveries as there were in the past, and many smaller sub-post offices have closed, 1st Class items arrive the day after posting and 2nd Class doesn't usually take more than two or three days. Of several hundred ebay sales this year, only one has gone missing - and it turned up with the recipient after a few weeks. Now I await a string of postal disasters!

Not to begin the morning with conspiracy theories, but the mail is being monitored and recorded now as never before.

Less employees and smaller stations is going to translate into slower service. As a society we're depending on the Post Office less and less.

No mystery why the mail is slow and erratic this year. The USPS announced the closures in 2012 to take effect on Jan 2015. They said there would be a minor impact, but they were wrong. It has been huge.n Here is the story:

This has become a major pet peeve for me. Very, very slow service and items being stolen.

With the new mail system and the way you can see it I learned alot, if it goes right it can go fast but if something gets sent to a wrong place it can take 3-4 times as long to get it back on track.

I had a package I was sending to Washington from California. It wet to Iowa then to Texas and then went back to CA sort center then back to local office only to be sent to Texas and then off to WA. There was a 7 day delay from Texas to Washington.

That makes for a GREAT ebay rating.
