I know that it all comes down to personal preference, but I would like to figure out how they are normally collected, especially concerning booklets and booklet singles or pairs.

I'm wanting to make my own pages but I really don't know how far to take some of these issues when making spaces.

My initial objective was to make spaces for just a used and mint single. then I saw some of the booklets and different combinations of stamps within and got totally lost. I've also seen spaces in pre-printed albums for complete booklets.

But I've also seen some people collect se-tennant pairs, or just 3-sided pairs of the same stamp, or both.

Anybody know what a typical way to collect these might be?

Here are 2 examples below of complete Swedish booklets. I already know complete booklets are collected as such, but would one also collect mint singles?, Pairs?, se-tennant?, blocks? Complete USED booklet panes? Arrrrrgggggh! The combinations seem endless!
I just want to be able to collect these in such a way so that I am not trying to find things that most dealers don't stock.

I would say display stuff as you now feel appropriate but try to purchase and save everything you like and can afford. In a few years you might just like redoing your album!

I really, REALLY don't wanna have to re-do it. It wouldn't bother me to add pages here and there, but I'm already envisioning an album that will be at least 200 pages, and I'm going to be using Showgard mounts for everything, even the most inexpensive stamps.

I've picked up pre-printed Sweden albums produced by Davo (running to the mid-1980s) and Safe (to the late 1950s). They have spaces for the stamps issued with perforations on all sides, as well as the standard issue with two sides imperforated. They also have spaces for pairs that were issued with perforations between, with imperforated edges at the sides. That's always seemed more than enough for me. The practice of housing complete booklets in pre-printed albums is, I think, a relatively recent one and, for me, many bridges too far. Perhaps you could go with a fairly basic selection for the core of the album and house the varieties, booklets etc on stocksheets at the back.

Geoff - That's actually not a bad idea. My initial intent, until I figured out all the booklets and such, was mint and used singles, including noted varieties, types, paper types, wmk varieties and noted colors and shades (more for the early issues). I didn't really put much thought into the booklets until I started finding them within collections I've bought. I even thought about disassembling them so I could have mint singles, but other people tell me NOT to separate any multiples of anything.

But I think I will start with a basic approach and leave room for expansion if I desire.

Thank you for the advice.

The shades eventually made my eyes pop out! The other attractive area is that of cancellations - you get some lovely strikes on Swedish stamps. In fact, I suspect that there's a whole world of collecting and pricing these in Swedish philately.

I agree, I'm also squirreling away nicely canceled stamps. I just don't know how I could make album pages for them, so those will probably be displayed on stock pages.

I also have a pre-printed album with spaces for sheet and booklet issues, watermark varieties (early issues) but not phosphor coated which I have added separately.
The booklet sheets e.g. the right hand image in the first post are catalogued pretty high at around £30 so significantly higher than the individual items.

I thought about this thread last night and took out my old Schaubek Sweden album which I acquired some time ago (I kind of forgot I had it). There are not that many regular issues by Sweden and much of their production are in booklet/SS form as you know. This album has spaces for singles, pairs, blocks of 4 and/or full panes.

I ran across the following article afterwards that might be of interest, describing the different styles of collecting Swedish stamps:

Great link HungaryForStamps.

This will come in handy when I finally get to sorting through all my Swedish stamps & booklets.
