I want a removable peel-off piece of paper above stamps in my stock books to hold the Scott Number of the stamp. I want to avoid writing on the stock book itself and want to avoid damage to it if I peel the piece of paper off. Also I would want the ability to erase and re-write another number on it if I wished. The sticky strip part of Post-Its would work but it would have a life span, and then there's the wastage of the rest of all those Post-Its.

Can you write on those removable stamp hinges? Would you use pencil, ink pen, Sharpie? The ability to buy them by bulk would eliminate all problems, for I wouldn't need to reuse them or worry about erasing. I could just peel it off and use a piece of a new one.

Thoughts? Please help. Thanks.

IBFS, I do not specifically know the answer to your questions, but I can tell you what I use. I have been using old album pages to put those notes on. That way I know it is safe for stamps!

Scotch makes a white dry erase tape in a 15-foot roll 1.88 inches wide. You may be able to split the tape into a usable width and use a fine dry erase pen for your notes.

Post-it also comes in label pads of various sizes, though the ones I have are blue, pink, orange, green and yellow.

Another option is to use removable crafting glue stick or something like the Tombow dispenser to affix whatever piece of paper you like.

Does it need to peel? You could use the inch-square slips that dealers use. I do what Peter does - cut up old pages for the same purpose.

The small, adhesive, dots that one can get at a stationary store may work for your numbering system. Just don't try to use them as a substitute for hinges. I bought a "dotted" collection of Latin America maybe 20 years ago. Got a lot of great stamps to fill spaces in my WW collection. Also lost a good percentage because the stamps with dots wouldn't even soak well.

Slip a length of paper behind the strip, taller than the stamps, and write on that in pencil.

Acid-free, of course.

This was my first thought, and I've been avoiding it assuming to top heavy things would fall out or I would knock them around.

I think most use Vario pages in their stock books. How do those who use vario pages keep those pieces of paper behind the stamps from falling out or sliding around? I use the manila cardboard line pocket type. Holds onto stamps pretty tight.

I worry most about my albums. But my stock book will continue to grow as I continue to replace used stamps with better looking copies. The "peel-and-stick" thought is so I could move things around to keep them in some resemblance of numerical order as things fill up.

Maybe I should be open minded. How do you guys manage your stock books?

I keep a map of the contents of each page in a spreadsheet.
