As you rightly mention in the title, the word "imprimatur" is the key thing.

These stamps would, in the main, need access to the imprimatur sheet illustrations... and just a book of illustrations might cost a collector a considerable amount. Similarly with the CDs... they would, for a set, cost close to 200 pounds I believe although there are a few ebay ones available... but with dubious quality and accuracy.

If you want go down the DIY route using internet material then first learn to distinguish the alphabets and perhaps get a book or CD that covers that particular group of plates.

If you specialize in a particular group such as imperforate stamps with Maltese cross cancels, then the cost is vastly reduced as the plates would the plates from 12 to around 36... one book or one CD

I appreciate that but I dont want to go to the expense, this is not to satisfy my collection, im selling off all my stock and it would have been nice to have the plates on the listings, oh well I will list them as plate unknown and let the buyers decide, most of these were on blue paper which I assume narrows it down somewhat.

thanks as always
