Thanks! How do you guys even survive selling stamps with a flooded market like on ebay! I see a couple of the same stamps that I have up for sale for $50 and then I see it in a collection that sold for $20. The stamps I had seen in the Scott books as a kid were seemed so rare. Now they are everywhere because of the internet. My hats of to you all you must have the patience of Job. I will let them run at auction then drop the price as it goes try that at least. I may be able to make a bill payment instead of paying them off and buy a TV dinner when its over!
Thank you

The internet changed the market for a lot of collectables, on 1 hand people realized how much there were of some items but then with more people seeing what you could get raised the value of some better items. Someone told me 35 years ago " Everything is woth the same thing--- What the next person is willing to pay for it" and it has stuck with me.

You are too modest, Ken. You may not know how to price the country collections so you let the auction process do it for you, but you also have a good eye for buying world wide collections to break up. And I get the impression that there's a lot of work involved in previewing auctions and choosing what to pursue. You've earned your success with the country-collections!

Search ebay not for what's on offer but for completed sales, so you get an idea of what's actually selling and what it's selling for. Some of the stuff has been on offer for millennia.

Hieronymus thanks for the kind words. I mostly use the auction format because of turn over. I'd much prefer listing an auction item and selling it 7 days later rather than listing it "Fixed Price" and waiting weeks or months for it to sell. The price is also tricky. Occasionally I have an "Unpaid" item that I have to resell. The variation in prices is remarkable. I sold 1 item for $52 and resold it for $94, another I sold for $104 and resold for $37. It all depends on who is buying on ebay in any given week. If I were to set a "Fixed Price" the only logical thing to do is set it high.

I don't know much about stamps really but I do sell Vintage Hot Rod Parts. Its like the stock market buy when the eco is low sell when it picks up. The hard to find stuff comes off the shelf when its all down. Like stamps you have to know what to buy also. I have had the same experience on sale prices with car parts also.

Gasp. Do you mean that not everyone hovers over ebay every day of the week monitoring all her favorite sellers for even the slightest hint of movement in bidding?
