Haven't been on for a while due to problems with my phone. I just got another one and was checking to see if I missed anything good

I thought that USPS was issuing a James Brown stamp in the 'Music Icons' series this year, but it's not on the list. I let my subscription to Linn's expire last year, so I haven't been keeping up on new releases as much as I used to. |

There were a lot of "rumored" stamps that never came to be (at least not yet). Some are delayed until next year or thereafter; others are still a work in progress and some were reportedly cancelled altogether. It seems the USPS, having been the target of many lawsuits recently, has taken a very careful, legal approach to using the images of any person on a stamp until all of the details are worked out, resulting in delays as to the date of issue. In fact, if you look at the previously posted list of 2015 stamp issues, there were only a handful of stamps that depicted people; most of the subject matter was of inanimate objects.
The latest USPS focus is to eliminate overprinting of stamps, so some recent issues have a surprisingly small print quantity compared to what was issued in the past. This is also the reason why the USPS has been the target of media attention in their decision not to issue any religious-oriented holiday stamps this year (whether Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Eid) as they have reported substantial quantities of these stamps already in their inventory that they want to use up. In fact, recent news has suggested that it is a new USPS "policy" that the religious-oriented holiday stamps are to be printed only every other year. As for 2015, the secular holiday stamps are limited to Geometric Snowflakes and "A Charlie Brown Christmas". |

Thanks for the update and information. Like other areas of my life the threat of a lawsuit has affected me. The USPS seems to be wrong no matter which way they turn. There will probably be lawsuits over the stamps they cancelled of people who will claim racism. That James Brown (example only) is being targeted for something. Very discouraging. |

A nice postal clerk at a small town post office I visited this morning was looking in her vault for me in response to my request for the Paul Newman Stamp (strangely, she reported that she didn't have any, which she apologized for and said was unusual, as new issues are almost always in her office before the date of issue.)
Anyway, she did tell me that the stamps featuring "A Charlie Brown Christmas" are already in their vault and ready to be sold on the date of issue (October 1) and they're apt to be popular as the designs are very cute for the upcoming holidays.
Interestingly, I did buy one of the last panes of the US Coast Guard Stamps which she had in her drawer telling me that she was advised that they can no longer be re-ordered for post office sales. Apparently after local supplies are depleted, you'll have to order them from SFS. |
