They would be worth more in their original blocks, but what if the surrounding stamps had faults or were hinged? They might draw the multiple down to the point that the whole is less than the sum of its parts. An expertised 100J or 98J could easily eclipse the complete sheet with flaws at auction.
I don't like it or agree with it, but I can see scenarios where cutting the multiple down would ultimately be more profitable. And therein lies the problem. As long as there are bidiots willing to pay moon money for these manufactured exemplars, the practice will continue.
