My first question on the boards. Please let me know if this is where it should go?
Can glassine interleaving be susceptible to foxing, rust, etc.
Reason I ask is, I have a 4 volume set of Scott International albums, all interleaved.
Many of the pages are browning on the edges to the point it looks like they are being eaten. I can show pics if allowed to.
I am thinking about getting rid of the pages but keeping all the interleaving.
Any info and opinions would be appreciated.
John

It depends on whether the browning is simply caused by age, exposure to light, smoke etc or whether it s actually foxing or similar. If the latter, disposal may be advisable. |

Are you able to provide more photos? Also, please describe the environment in which you keep your albums. With more information, I can approach our librarian with the problem. |

They were this way when I bought them used but only started to notice as I was putting used stamps away.
My albums are all stored in a dry air conditioned environment. What type of additional pictures would you like as I can trim lots of the pages and scan them?
These 2 were done at 1200 DPI and I could scan up to 4800 DPI but takes a while. |

Here's some information about glassine: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byf...13/0534.htmlGlassine does not have a buffering agent, so any contact with acidic materials will degrade it over time. As for photos, I think one shot of an entire page would do and another of the entire edge of the album when closed. If you look carefully at the albums, you may find deterioration where someone has handled the pages most. As an example, a paperback often has markings where the thumbs hold back the pages. |

The pages are from the 1979 Scott International when they made Part 1 and Part 2 for the 1840 - 1940 |

Pictures don't work well with camera as I usually scan as much clearer. Does not look like anything is consistent with fingers etc and pages are fairly white. |
