Rule of thumb: It there is an image placeholder for the stamp in your album, chances are the retail/actual value of the stamp will be nominal. |

If it adequately fills a space in your collection, then its good to have. If you are hoping to make some money on stamps, find another occupation. |

It is interesting how so many people really think they are going to strike it rich with any 'old' stamp they have. Is this the case with other collectibles? Must be because the only publicity stamp collecting gets is when someone sells a stamp or a collection for several million dollars |

Part of the reason is that stamps are one of a very few collectibles (perhaps the only one?) that can have identical faces, but be worth between pennies and millions, depending on grill, perforation, watermark, etc.

Sometimes I've seen small accumulations of packet material in very mixed condition on ebay where the seller has been told by family or friends that the stamps are very valuable. Rather than do research, the seller comes up with a number they feel they could live with if the lot sold without awareness of the true "value." At times, these kinds of lots are offered in the thousands of dollars. |

The 2 cent Libia may be worth checking out. I don't have my Scott Classic catalog handy as I write this. But I do know that some perf varieties of the set, where the 2 center is from, are more scarce and valuable. Can't determine, however, the condition of the stamp. Condition is usually a vital factor. |

We get these inquiries because stories of valuable gems found in unlikely locations are a recurring theme of the hobby, right through 2015. Don't forget that three blocks of rare Chinese stamps were discovered in a cigar box in an English attic in 2014, and sold immediately to a dealer for £79,000. The British Guiana magenta was found by accident, as were many of the Mauritius "Post Office" examples. So while it may be unlikely - it does happen. I'm not saying you should count on it, just that these stories, including recent ones, influence thinking and behavior.

Another example of a great "find" were the Swedish errors of color found inside a wall. |
