Have just been scanning my Fiume collection & have found a cover or card that I came across. It contains Sc#128-133 & E4-E5.
The VEGLIA Ovpt. measures 17mm (not the scarcer 19mm).

Question: does anyone have any info on this item?
What was it issued for or was this a dealers/show card for the set?

Any idea of value ( sum of the individual stamps as used is $590 US

thanks
Marios

Great. Thanks. Wonder if there is any historical significance.
I may just add it to my WWI collection of covers.
Will be watching for any info you can supply

I'm afraid I can't comment on the value of this piece, but I would think it would be worth careful preservation. Stamp collectors with an historical bent will love something like this.

I suspect, however, that these stamps are not as valuable individually as you might have surmised; they were not really postally used.

I wish I knew more about the background of the piece, but it is likely part of an act of defiance. The Treaty of Rapallo created the free city/state of Fiume earlier in this month. The renegade Italian forces occupying Fiume ignored the treaty and were bombarded by Italy and forced to flee the area by the end of the year.

These forces were led by one of the most colorful personalities in modern Italian history: Gabriele D'Annunzio. He had marched his forces into the city the year before because the Allies had broken Italy's agreement with Great Britain that the entire coast would become Italian territory after the war. For whatever reason, the Allies did not follow through with Fiume.

These stamps you have were issued by/on the Island of Veglia, asserted by D'Annunzio to be a part of his territory.
