I have a German cover. The cover has 6 of the same stamps on it ,therefore is a MEF Cover The stamps are on a Luftpostleichtbrief, dated 8.9.60
I know it to be correctly franked.but the problem is,hoe to find out the catalog value. Two of the 6 stamps are singe,4 are in a block of four or 2 Berlin 183/183 strips. Can someone help with the determination of its catalog value?
(Cover with six 10 pfg Berlin stamps of Michel 183)
Henrick, welcome to the forum. We love to help, but what is a MEF cover? And since most of us do not own a Michel, maybe you could put up a picture? Six stamps are worth something, but on cover with maybe a special cancel couls be a whole different animal!
I was able to get a response. The covers catalog value is Euro 141.00 Breakdown is as follows Michel Brief Catalog for 183/183 0n cover =Euro 120.00 Michel Catalog for an additional 183/183 = Euro 20.00 Michel Catalog for two single stamps of 183 =Euro 1.00 Total Euro 141.00
Catalog value and actual commercial value are two very different numbers. Actual commercial value is much less than catalog value. Also, it will depend on the condition of each and every stamp. Do any have any damage of any kind, even as little as a pulled perforation or two. And it will depend on how they are affixed to the cover, to where the cover was sent, what are the cancels, are all of the cancels easily readable, are any of the cancels overly heavy and make the stamps less than easy to see, is the cover they are on a small number 6 size (which is the most desireable) or a large size which is not desireable, is the cover white paper (the most desireable) or brown or some other color (the least desireable), are there any cachets or supplemental cancels on the cover, is the cover backstamped to show it went through the mail, is the cover a philatellic creation or is it actual mail that went through the post, etc. etc. One must take all of these issues into consideration when determining the value of such a cover. For example, in just one of these factors - if any of the stamps has the least amount of damage or overly heavy cancellation, its value as a stamp can decline to zero or near zero.
