To be honest, I cheated a bit, rotated my laptop LCD display in 45 degree angle (instead of the usual ~80 angle I use), and all those different shades just 'jumped' out of the screen easily. But I guess it shows how easily the colors/shades on the screen are affected by number of things (not just how good our eyes are).
Same applies also in the real world... If you use wrong kind of lamp during all those all dark (and cold) winter nights, you will likely misidentify most of the shades if comparing what you might get when looking at the same stamps in regular daylight.
