Ridiculous Ebay/Paypal Situation

Yes its online robbery on all sellers but no one to police it. jimjamtwo just do what I do don't sell to Slovakia at all and some other high risk countries.

If you block someone still pay attention to who your buyers are. I blocked a buyer only to have him put a bid in on an item under his wife's account.

I had one who changed his ebay id then rebid, so yes you have to watch the postal addresses when you block someone

duncanvr, I have a problem with the idea of 'high risk' countries. Svetozar Plesnik is the problem, not Slovakia, surely. I have sold to Russia quite a few times without any problems, and I think many sellers would probably think of Russia as a 'high risk' country. Prior to this, my only problems were with mainland China.

I'm a very small time seller - try hard as I may, most weeks I make only a pittance from ebay sales. As it's pretty much the only income I have, I can't afford not to sell to anybody. This is why situations like this are terrible ordeals for me. It looks like I won't even be able to afford my diabetes medication this week and I'll have to postpone that til next week (assuming some things sell over the weekend).

In any case, ebay's business practices are the REAL problem. How can they not smell a rat when the buyer has claimed not to have received two items from the same seller in a row? You'd have to be stupid or - as I would suggest - deliberately conspiring against sellers.

And how can the fact that I have a Top Seller rating not change the outcome? It's pretty clear that I send my items out, that people receive them, and that they leave me very good feedback. Why does this count for nothing?

I agree, John Freibergs - it pays sometimes to check the postal address to see if you've sent to that address before.

High risk countries since I blocked China, India, Thailand and some others I have had minimal trouble with the online robbers. If someone in a country I don't ship to wants an item they have to pay the $20+ registered fee. You can accept an ebay id one at a time from any of the blocked countries. I have sent to Russia no problems but other places like China I would only send in a registered letter when bidder has agreed on the registered postage.

They don't smell a rat because they don't want to be policeman. Anymore than shill bidding, listing bogus items, or listing Chinese knockoffs as the real thing. They hype their Buyer Protection Plan but it's built on the backs of the sellers unless you play by their rules. And even then, good luck.

I'm wondering how many buyers are aware that they can get a refund if they say they haven't received an item, regardless of the circumstances. Potentially, every ebay buyer could do this. My case shows that there are no safeguards in place to protect sellers against such claims.

All the items (3 in all) he bought from me were MNH blocks from the Seychelles. So anyone here who sells the Seychelles (by the sea shore) should make a note of his name and ebay ID.

If every ebay buyer did that every time, then sellers would drop off ebay one by one in an instant. I understand most of us sellers get the odd case but it just really hurts when you know you sent the item and you know the other person is stealing. I heard of a case where the other person said item not received and they had it active selling on their site. You are correct there are no safeguards in place to protect sellers against such claims. Customers always right. Wonder how many do their xmas shopping on ebay and raise claims to get their funds back. Free gifts from Santa.

It will be accessible to all verified ebay sellers. I've put an ad up on Craiglist in the General Community section. If others could post the ad in their own cities and forward me the lists, it would help.

Are you an ebay seller who has been slugged by ebay or Paypal on account of buyers who allege they haven't received their items that you've actually posted? If you have the ebay IDs, countries, and names of any of the buyers involved please email me a list. I'll be starting an online database of such buyers over the next few weeks that will be accessible to all ebay sellers as a way to monitor suspicious buyer activity.

It's interesting that splesnik has private feedback enabled. In an era where a buyer cannot earn a neutral or negative feedback, what reason would there be to make your feedback private? So people can't see what kinds of things you bid on or buy? They can't see that anyway, because ALL ebay buyers are invisible to all other buyers!

Is there a way to block buyers who have private feedback?

shermae, he switched to Private Feedback after I left feedback warning sellers to only use registered mail when posting things to him. Presumably, he didn't like that.

I think you can block any buyer, regardless - you just enter their ebay ID in your ebay list.
