The British Industries Fair (1920-1960) deserves its own thread.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Briti...ustries_Fair ... "For two weeks every year it was the most visited attraction in the country."

http://www.britishpathe.com/video/b...r-birmingham ... 1957 newsreel footage

http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/1957_B...ustries_Fair ... 1957 Exhibitors List

Sadly, all I have got to show is one lonely slogan cancel

Cheers,

Your British Industries Fair postmark would have been used between 1st February and 7th May 1957 with yours dated 2nd April. I think the 1957 postmark was the last year of use... although the Fair probably continued for a few more years if your 1920-1960 dates are correct.

Incidentally the recipient Elizabeth Pope is worthy of research as she has great philatelic connections.

Ouch! You are correct that I lent the solidity of concrete to pure wind, turning "The site was sold in 1960" into fairs running thru 1960.

What, no postcards?

Cheers,

It is quite possible that the dates ARE correct. The use of the postmark dates from 1922 until 1957 but it may be that the Fairs pre-date and post-date the postmark usage by a couple of years.
Your Birmingham 1957 postmark is the last year of use...and that previously the Fairs postmarks had both London and Birmingham written.
