The date of the postmark on the cover is not the day he died; it is the first anniversary of his death.

The President was killed on the 22nd, so this postmark is a day early. Kinda weird.

Time difference maybe?

Actually November 22, 1964 fell on a Sunday, therefore
the Bundespost issued the stamp on Saturday November 21, 1964.

Gee. If you want to commemorate the death of JFK, maybe you can stay open just for the ceremony?

Who says they even had a ceremony.
The stamp was issued by West Germany (similar one by West Berlin)
not the USA.
Your president not theirs.

The only reason they even issued a stamp for Kennedy was
because he had a big impact with his " Ich bin ein Berliner"
speech which went over well in West Berlin due to the
Cold War and the recent erection of the Berlin Wall.

Canada, the northern friendly neighbour and close ally did not
issue a JFK stamp.
