I can't remember if they recognized their northern neighbour's centennial in '67;

Your memory is getting as bad as mine but the USPS actually
did issue a stamp for our Centennial.
Could have been a better design though.
Maybe someone just remembered in the last minute that
a stamp should be issued and said, lets see:
" Canada,lots of empty land, rocks and water. Yup that's
good enough for that stamp."

The artwork reminds me of what you'd find hanging up in a cheap motel room. Still, it's the thought that counts, right?

it has a mixture of color in the clouds I believe, and not all solid with mixture of yellow, light violet, and blue ontop of the print of sailboat horizontally across to the head of the eagle? it is not all one color like shown in the picture in forum, It stops below the "IGNT" of the Washington Post..that I believe may be the difference with this photo of first day issue..

Wait a second..there are more than one first day issues for this date too.. There is another one with Arthur Phillips the first one expressed and a K. Bear on it as well.. I don't collect first day issues..But the cloud solid form one color is odd with your picture..

On the cover you show the US stamp has the dates 1788 and 1988. In the 2011 USPS catalogue #2370 shows the dates as 1788 and 1900.
this topic has long been abandoned and I have no idea if any one will see this.
Does anyone know why this is the case?
