Oh darn. I thought the thread title said St. Vincent forgery. Seriously though, these stamps are a pleasure to look at whether real or forged. |

Thank Hal, I bought it as a reference collection as I also collect genuine Sudan stamps from this era. There are 6 minor settings of this overprint and a few varieties within these, so reference material is always handy. |

There is something awesome about handwritten album pages/reference sheets. I don't know what it is, but they just ooze character IMO. |

(Please ignore the messy presentation of this album page. It's from a Sudan collection I've not yet worked on). Tim, your forgery collection prompted me to look at my Sudan overprints. All look OK to me with the exception of the 10p, which looks quite dodgy? |

Jenny,
Sudan overprints with Cairo Money order cancels should be a warning to you. Most of the used appear to have Egyptian cancels, the only Sudan cancel is the Wadi Halfa cds. All used should have clear Sudanese cancels otherwise definitely forged overprints.

Thanks Pagoda! I was so concentrated on the overprints, I missed the improbable cancels. But at least they're fairly contemporary - they'll find a home with my other forgeries. |

Since I joined in August 2014, I have appreciated the information about forgeries and the related images posted on SCF by floortrader and others. Thanks. |

Jenny,
the cancels are contemporary as they should be but the forged overprints would have been added later, maybe much later. They have been forged since they were issued until today. There may be 1000's of different forgeries on Egyptian stamps,

Indeed there are many forgeries. One comment stating that Wadi Halfa is the only Soudan CDS basically throws people off. There are many cancels on these. Wadi Halfa is just the most common cancel. There is: Kartum Kassala Barbar Dongola Gedaref Korti Dabroussa Tani Tokar Just to name a few. This is taken from Balian specialized. |

I realize this is not a recent thread, but am hoping this is a good place to start. I bought a mostly mint and mostly complete 1951 Sudan collection a few decades ago. I removed the stamps that had been mounted in an album and moved them to safer Lindner pages. Until a few days ago, I hadn't realized (or didn't remember!) that counterfeits are common in this set. I found this thread a few days ago and am asking a favor. Can I get some preliminary opinions regarding which (if any) of these might be legitimate stamps and which are likely to be counterfeits. Can you recommend any other web sources of examples? Then I'll go from there. Unfortunately, a couple of these appear to have been repaired and there are a couple with foxing spots. All have gum, but I have not yet made an effort to determine if some are regummed. I appreciate your help. Thanks! |

Thank you for that reference. I had seen it, but have not yet studied it. I was hoping to get some feedback on my stamps in order to get me started with the process of understanding the variations. |
