I'm hoping someone can tell me whether or not inverted precancels generally increase the value of stamps or not. I thought they did. Also I wonder if you could tell me which US classic precancels to look for... Which are potentially valuable. Thanks

Stampcrazed, there are thousands upon thousands of precancels! Not easy to tell which ones are valuable. Experience in this field is a plus, and one gets that by reading a lot. Go to www.precancels.org or www.precancels.com for some basic info!
Also, inverted precancels are not always more valueable, here again it depends a lot on the underlying stamp.
Another way of learning about precancels is to search on this forum. Just put the word 'precancel' in the search box and take it from there!

The middle stamp is not a pre-cancel, it is registered mail.

Its a whole new thing to learn, one precancel might be worth 20 cents and another one that looks almost exactly the same can be worth 100.00 just because it has a period or something.

I agree with all of the above, except that none of these stamps is a precancel.

The 10c Prexie appears to be a parcel post hand-stamp from Champion (Township) Michigan a very small community - less than 300 people - in our Upper Peninsula. A very nice item!

The postage due stamp is from Yonkers New York. I have only seen this straight-line cancel on larger blocks, but I am not a specialized dues collector.
