Hi Folks! Can't really say that I am a collector as just recently my wife's father gave us two standard office boxes filled with his stamp collection. It's a pretty rough collection in that there are a few albums with stamps in them, hundreds of stamps stuffed into sheets for a particular country, hundreds of stamps in envelopes that are stamps that are on bits of paper, IE they were mailed. I'll also mention that after father -in-law had an initial collecting spurt together with a friend, who passed on his stuff, there's really not much after the early 1960s.
Ok any suggestions as to what I should do with this free form collection. I'd also be willing to send photos of segements of the collection to show you what it's about. I'll also mention that I live in a small community in the Arctic so there's no taking the stuff to anyone for an opinion!
I inherited my collection and the first thing I did was join my local stamp club. I am sure there is one near you. They have all been REALLY helpful in giving me honest answers and opinions. I do not feel like I am being cheated by dealers or anything. Here is where I found my local club: http://stamps.org/local-clubs
jrpdroguex I am glad you were able to find a local stamp club, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have one near them. There is not even one in my whole state. I would have to go hundreds of miles to find a stamp club. I sure wish there was one near by though.
