An Era Gone Australia Philately

It is in sadness I report that Peter Johnson of Australasian Philatelic Wholesalers Pty Ltd passed away on Friday.

Someone I called a friend.

His endless time to help.

Far to young..........

That is sad news. I met him at his Mt Waverley premises a couple of months ago.

Requiescat in pace.

From my understanding, Max Stern may not be continuing his dealership much longer. He is apparently being forced out of his premises due to some redevelopment program.
Nothing lasts forever but it's sad to see all the old guard going..

Peter's Mother worked with him forever. Our thoughts go out to her. A very friendly Lady that greatly loved her son.

To my knowledge there is no other family member to hand his business on to.

Peter had the largest amount of Australia all eras stock of any dealership.

There is no other to replace him.

If I ever got short of a very hard to get stamps Peter always had a least 10 great examples for me.

No one could beat his prices once you got to know him.

I hope that some one continues the great work that Peter started in its fullness.

Max Stern is in his 90's if I have it right.

Max is in his 90's.

I was in his shop the other day, and he still comes out and tends to his clients.
Hopefully the arcade will not have to go, to make way for an underground transport tunnell.

Peter was a thorough gentleman, always helpful, always generous and always well stocked!

Max Stern won't have much choice but to move. The site of the Port Phillip Arcade will be used to create an access hole for the tunnel boring.
